"My career has been almost 50 years long. I can say in all of these years the name Steinberg has been a staple in the music community of Memphis. The thing that causes people all over the world to talk about this city is the high caliber and consistency of the talent of the musicians who lived and breathed their music. My introduction to Stax records was made valuable to me after the success of "Green Onions" by Booker T. and the M.G.s One of the writers of that great record was Lewie Steinberg. The song is still heard all over the world in movies, radio and television. When people talk about the Memphis sound, one of the cornerstones of that legacy is "Green Onions". When I was a high school student, I remember working at night clubs learning about entertainment from Wilbur Steinberg, a wonderful singer and bass player who had a huge following in the segregated south because of his great talent. I learned so much from this man,how to deliver a

The credit of what made Memphis music great and loved is because of the Steinberg family. They have made music in this city for decades. To give them any recognition and accolades would be justified and long overdue."
